Brewing Directions

Brewing Slippery Elm in a tea bag requires a slightly different approach than your average herbal tea.

The "Gently Press" Method 

Slippery Elm contains natural mucilage that expands when wet. Follow these steps to prevent broken bags and get a potent brew. 

  1. Steep: Place one bag in a mug with 8 oz of boiling water. 
  2. Cover: Cover and steep for 10–15 minutes. (Note: The tea may remain clear—this is normal!) 
  3. Deflate: Lift the bag out of the water for a few seconds to let trapped air escape. 
  4. Press: Gently press the bag against the side of the cup with a spoon. Do not squeeze or wring, as the wet paper can tear.
